A note to Parents

Having walked the path you are currently on,
I know how lonely the journey can be.

The hours of research late at night, the never-ending scrolling through social media trying to make sense of the right path and the importance of making the right connections.

Navigating a diagnosis has many layers to it and helping loved ones and friends understand the best approach can be hard. Then there is the school landscape. The fear of handing over the baton to your child’s teacher [ a new face] and making first impressions count with the vast array of support staff can in itself be overwhelming for you.

What I want you to remember is this: the most powerful tool you have is your voice as your child’s advocate. I know it can feel daunting knowing where to start, what to ask for, and how to make your needs heard. But you are not alone. With compassion, persistence, and the right tools, you can open doors to the understanding, support, and connection your child truly deserves.

I know first-hand the powerful impact the books I created, provided for our daughter’s teachers and the school community and the relationships it forged. My daughter is now an adult, yet all these years on, many of her primary school teachers remain friends that I’m still in contact with.

This is the very reason THIS IS AUTISM was created to provide a simple, visual tool that’s easy to follow, engaging to use, and designed to help bridge the gap between awareness and real understanding.
